Although most people are more familiar with the more modern short barrel carbine version, the model 94 was sold in a number of barrel lengths and configurations. Some barrels were octagonal, some round and some were part octagonal and part round.
In spite of or because of their rather dated appearance, Model 94 lever action rifles continue to be popular among hunters and collectors as well.

As initially designed, cartridge cases were ejected through the top of the gun. This made mounting a scope difficult. A revamped version of the 94 was introduced in 1982 that ejected the cartridges up and to the right allowing a scope to be mounted on the top of the receiver. Such rifles come from the factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts.
