Reloading with Lead Bullets

Many handloaders use lead bullets to load both rifle and handgun ammunition.
Lead bullets are softer than jacketed bullets and will result in less barrel wear.
Lead bullets generally are significantly less expensive than jacketed bullets of the same weight and caliber.

Tips for loading with Cast or Swaged Lead Bullets

Most commercially swaged bulk lead bullets will be presized and lubricated. I have been generally satisfied with most swaged handgun bullets that I have purchased. One type that I have found completely unsatisfactory are double ended wadcutter bullets with no lubrication grooves. Generally these are coated with an oily film and I have found that even with light loads, severe lead fouling will occur in short order.
